Tom Flint's "London Bridge Panoramic, London" (2009) is an expansive seven-plate etching, originating from a simple pen drawing developed over three weeks of immersive observation on London Bridge. Flint champions drawing over photography for its ability to absorb the detail and ceaseless motion – the people, traffic, and the city's constant hum, like a living, breathing organism. The panoramic view sweeps from Southwark Cathedral to the City, encompassing the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and distant Canary Wharf. Lines in the sky and fine pen work guide the viewer's dancing eye, while chaotic clouds mirror the city's energy. The work pays homage to Kuniyoshi, incorporating a lightning strike and an iconic skeleton in the final plate, capturing an excitement in visual storytelling. Rooftop figures emulate Anthony Gormley’s sculptures, enhancing movement. Layered washes of black ink provide depth and translucency.
